  • Breaking the Cycle of Bullying - 10 Lessons

If you were to begin a conversation about bullying, especially with a child, it may be best to lay a foundation upon which to build. To create an understanding that goes deeper than just reacting to a crisis or trying to avoid one. Breaking the cycle should be more than just a Band-Aid slapped over the problem. Antibiotics are required. The disease needs to be treated, not the symptoms. Teach them how to take control and responsibility for being part of the solution, instead of just another person talking about the problem. Give them a map, and then provide them with guidance and training. Give them the tools they need to not only recognize an opportunity to make a ....

LNF: What does 3DMAA stand for? 3DMAA stands for Three Dragons Martial Arts Academy. It all started in 1997 when my dad came home and handed a sketch to me and my two siblings (Jose and Alicia) of three dragons and at the center the yin-yang symbol. I remember we all looked at each other and then back at dad waiting for him to explain. He was always a visionary and we learned to expect the unexpected at an early age. “Each dragon represents one of you. Who you are - your passion and strengths.” my dad explained. “You each make up the whole - Three Dragons and that creates a balance." That day he announced his vision for our family. ü Completing Tasks the First Time Asked –
In our dojang, we have a few simple rules. One of those rules is that when your child is asked to do something – it is done the first time. We never yell or scold, but every kid does it because they see the other kids in the class doing it too. And they want to make friends and be a part of the group. After a couple weeks you will usually start to see your kid start doing this at home, too. I can't tell you how many parents have thanked me profusely when it starts to ....

  • FAQ

How old do you have to be to take class?
At least 3 years. Age is much less important than the student’s ability to focus and follow directions and his or her desire to learn. Many children reach this developmental level around age 5. Others need a bit longer, and some mature even more quickly. If you would like to discuss your child specifically, please give us a call. Am I too old to take class?
Never! Taekwon-Do is about your mind, body and spirit—not your age. If you desire to learn you should not be concerned about your age. If a student needs to modify certain exercises because of physical limitations that is perfectly acceptable. Similarly, students with physical ....

Taekwon-Do means a way of life. Literally Taekwon-Do means "Tae" stands for kick or smash with a foot, "kwon" stands for punch or destroy with a hand or a fist, and "Do" means the art or way. Combined, they all mean the techniques for unarmed combat for self-defense. Spoken by General Choi, "Taekwon-Do definitely enables the weak to posses a fine weapon together with the confidence to defend him or herself and defeat the opponent as well. Of course wrongly applied Taekwon-Do can be a lethal weapon. Therefore, mental training must always be stressed to prevent the student from misusing it." I believe Taekwon-Do should not be misused, misjudged, or misrepresented. Taekwon-Do is defensive ....

First, thank you for visiting Three Dragons Martial Arts Academy’s online home! Three Dragons has a very special meaning to our family and we are excited to share it with you and your loved ones. Why is it special to us?
When we settled in Orlando we looked high and low for the right Martial Arts school for our family. After visiting several schools and training in a few…we couldn’t find the right fit. We were dissatisfied with the experiences and lack of results at the schools we tried and visited. We made a decision that we would not accept anything but the best. After 25 years of training in Martial Arts, owning a very successful school in Fairbanks, Alaska for almost ten years, ....

After all, life is a journey and I want to have the best experience possible. Here is a quick tip to help you on your way: It's the beginning of the work week; your weekend has ended and now you return to work and the daily grind. But what if you change your mindset? If you find yourself dreading an activity or even person, think about ....

    L-Stance (Fighting Stance)
L-Stance (Niunja -Sogi) is also called the fighting stance. The feet should be placed one and a half shoulder width apart while both feet are turned in 15 degrees. The weight distribution should be 70% on the rear leg and 30% on the front leg. This allows for quick snap kicks on the front leg or powerful kicks from the rear leg. L-Stance is used from white belt through all the degrees of black belt; it is a fundamental movement in ITF Taekwon-Do and is important to practice until mastered. ....

    #taekwondothursday
In order to understand the history of Taekwon-Do is to know the founder General Choi Hong Hi. He was born on November 9, 1918 in North Korea, an invaded country that suffered the destruction of its own culture. Korea was occupied by Japan at this time. General Choi Hong Hi started practicing the ancient Korean art called "Tae Kyon" and later in Japan Shotokan Karate, which he mastered. Final Thoughts Friday - Activity
On a final thought for a great week, I wanted to take a moment to stress the importance of activity. I don't want to be specific and use the term "exercise" as any activity is a great thing. Walking a mile burns just as many calories as running or jogging that same mile. You do not need to do high impact workouts or hours upon hours of cardio to find improvement in yourself. Simply walking through Taekwon-Do movements or practicing self defense is enough to give you some benefit. Get up, be active and have fun while doing it, release some endorphins and enjoy being active. If its an activity that will build life skills and teach you to defend ....

  • Motivation Monday - Fear

    #motivationmonday
It's a simple statement, but powerful message. It is telling us that we need to embrace fear. We need to recognize that fear is a barrier that prevents us from reaching our true potential and purpose. We learned to fear as children. We would get hurt and a parent or care giver quickly rushes to us to make sure we were okay. Often that lead to the tears; reaction of the adult, their concern is what caused us to think that we were not okay. We didn't know what was wrong, but they were upset so it must be bad. We also learn to fear through embarrassment. If you ask a kindergartner a question they will throw out all kinds of responses. They are creative and ....

  • The Three Dragons

So you may be wondering where the name Three Dragons came from…it all started in 1997 when my dad came home and handed a sketch to me and my two siblings (Jose and Alicia) of three dragons and at the center the yin-yang symbol. We would open our own dojang in Fairbanks, Alaska called Three ....
